HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Saint Jo, Forestburg clash Friday

Forestburg and Saint Jo are roughly 12 miles apart.
Since Saint Jo dropped down to six-man football, the Panthers and Longhorns have formed a rivalry in Montague County.
The programs will play on Friday as Forestburg travels to Saint Jo for a non-district showdown at Harley Sewell Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The match-up is made all the more dramatic knowing Forestburg head coach Wayne Tuckwell once served as an assistant at Saint Jo.
“Wayne’s done a great job at Forestburg,” Saint Jo head coach Chad Tallon said. “It’s always fun to play each other. The kids play each other in every sport. They know each other.”
Tuckwell moved from Northside, a six-man football powerhouse, to take a similar position in Saint Jo before eventually moving to the head spot in Forestburg.
“It’s always a big game,” Tuckwell said.
Tuckwell said the biggest thing is to keep the Longhorns focused, and beating Saint Jo would be a big part of that.
Last year’s game was a classic as Forestburg defeated Saint Jo 69-54 at Longhorn Stadium.
Tuckwell said it’s going to be important for the Longhorns to play disciplined football and be in the right position – especially against Saint Jo’s new spread formation with Blake Anderson and Preston Lyons making the Panther offense tick.
Most of the time, Saint Jo will run a 4-2 defense. For Forestburg, the task at hand will be to stay on their blocks in an attempt to move the ball.
Forestburg (2-3) is coming off 60-32 loss to Nazarene Christian based in Crowley. Meanwhile, Saint Jo (3-1) has had two weeks to prepare for the Longhorns.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
