STATE: UIL punishes coaches from San Antonio Jay

The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Thursday to hand down decisions on rule violations stemming from a Sept. 4 incident involving San Antonio Jay High School.
On Sept. 4, two San Antonio Jay students, football players, targeted an official during a game versus Marble Falls.
The students have been suspended from all UIL activities for the rest of the 2015-16 academic calendar. For one student, it’s the remainder of his eligibility.
The second student must appear before the committee to request his UIL eligibility be reinstated in future years.
Former Jay assistant coach Mack Breed was issued a suspension for the rest of the year. Breed also was given a public reprimand and two years probation.
Jay head football coach Gary Gutierrez was given a public reprimand and two years probation as well.
The Texas Association of Sports Officials is completing its investigation into the allegations of racial slurs made by the official.
The committee referred the results of this investigation to the UIL Sports Officials Committee.
Robert Watts, the official targeted during the game, testified before the committee and denied using any slurs.
