During the regular season, the Forestburg High School volleyball team had trouble with Bryson.
The two teams met again on Tuesday night during the Conference 1A regional quarterfinal match at Chico High School.
This time, the Lady Horns’ service game proved too much for the Cowgirls to handle and Forestburg defeated Bryson by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-12.
With the victory, Forestburg prepared to play Conference 1A No. 1 Kopperl in the regional semifinals set for Friday evening at Central High School in San Angelo.
The Lady Horns now stand at 20-15, with three playoff trophies in tow.
“The girls came through, and they served well,” Forestburg head coach Cori Hayes said. “The girls have been working on spot serves.
“The girls came out and played some of their best volleyball we have seen,” Hayes continued. “This was a familiar foe, and we took care of business.”
Serving was the name of the game, and Forestburg had 23 ace serves in the match, paced by Hope Phipps’ nine and Cheyenne Banks added eight aces. Kaylee Choate chipped in with four and Alexia Britain had two.
The girls serve different styles, too. Phipps is a classic jump server. Banks serves up a hard, flat ball. Kaylee Choate, Lindsey Johnston and Joscelyn Riddles excel as spot servers.
The first set was tied six times, including at 11-all, before Forestburg went on a four-point run – keyed by a couple of Britain kills. Bryson pulled with two points several times, including at 23-21.
Forestburg won the first set thanks to poor Bryson serve reception.
Bryson went up 3-0 in the third game before Forestburg scored 11 of the next 14 points for a comfortable five-point lead. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.

The lead line division, in which an adult helps the young competitors, saw Rylee Stewart win the first in poles, barrel racing and mystery event on her way to win top cowgirl.
Hattie Snow got the fastest time in the flags event and Lany Shupak got the fastest goat time. Riggin Bishop got named the top cowboy in the division.
In the eight-and-under division, Whitley Goins won the top cowgirl and Trell Carpenter won top cowboy. Goins got the fastest times in barrel racing, flags and mystery event. Carpenter got the fastest time in poles and goats.
In the 9-12 age division, Sage Keck won the top cowgirl while Chisum Carpenter won the top cowboy. Keck got the fastest times in four of the five divisions. Only Layna Taylor getting the fastest goat time prevented her from winning in a clean sweep.
