The Bowie High School volleyball team had a chance to wrap up a spot in the Conference 3A playoffs.
But, there was a stern test in front of them playing Holliday – which turned out to be the only competitive match in District 3A-9 on the final night of the regular season.
Bowie fell behind two sets to none, and then evened the match at two sets apiece.
But, in the end, Holliday defeated Bowie by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 15-10.
That meant Bowie and Nocona, who swept Paradise on Tuesday, needed to have a play-in game. The game was scheduled for noon on Saturday in Henrietta.
Bowie dropped to 24-14 overall, and 9-5 in District 3A-9. The Lady Rabbits have won four more matches overall and four more in district play this season.
“I was proud of the girls for the fight and heart they showed to come back in sets three and four,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “In set five, we had too many unforced errors to stay close in the short 15-point set.
“We are now headed in a different direction, but we are still determined to get back to the same place, the playoffs,” Stark added.
Stark said Bowie was in trouble during the fifth set when Holliday rattled off three straight points to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Lady Eagles. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
