HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Bears are roaring

Madi Eckeberger was named the Vernon Tournament most valuable player as the Gold-Burg girls’ basketball team defeated Eldorado, Okla., for the title.
“The girls played outstanding, and their defense won them the tournament,” Gold-Burg first-year head coach Cheryl Cromleigh said.
After starting the season with five straight losses, the Lady Bears have now won five straight to even their record at 5-5.
In the win over Eldorado, Eckeberger paced three girls scoring in double figures with 13. Lexy Hand added 11 and Stormey Edwards 10. Read more in The Bowie News.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
