HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Nocona girls move on at Era

The Nocona High School girls’ basketball team defeated Aubrey 58-50 in the opening round of the Era Tournament on Thursday.
Makenzie Franklin, Emma Meekins and Kalyn Crow all tossed in double-digit points for the Lady Indians, who improved to 6-4 on the season. Franklin netted 13 points, Meekins 12 and Crow 10.
Nocona played the winner of a game between Bridgeport and Palmer on Friday.
Mackie Trumbull recorded a game-high 10 rebounds while Sherese Price, Ali Walker and Meekins all had five caroms each. Franklin also dished off a team-best four assists and Jamie Carpenter chipped in with three steals.
On Tuesday evening, Nocona defeated Burkburnett 57-54 as Franklin tallied 18 points and Carpenter had 14. Read more in The Bowie News.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
