LOCAL BASKETBALL: BJH girls sweep titles

The Bowie Junior High School seventh- and eighth-grade “A” girls’ basketball teams won their respective grade tournaments at Wichita Falls on Saturday.
The seventh-grade girls defeated Iowa Park 35-5, outscoring the Lady Hawks 18-0 in the second half. Jayci Logan tallied 11 points.
In the 36-18 victory over Vernon, Bowie bolted to a 25-7 lead thanks to a 14-0 second quarter. Abbi Gamblin totaled 15 points in the victory.
Bowie defeated McNiel 22-14 in the championship, paced by Gamblin’s nine points.
In the eighth-grade division, Bowie first took care of Burkburnett 38-9 as the Cottontails rolled to a 29-5 lead at end of three thanks to a 13-2 run throughout the third quarter.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
