HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: De Leon, Hernandez earn mixed gold

Several area schools competed in the Tioga Tournament, which took place at Denton on Monday.
Monday’s matches featured boys’ singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles, and girls’ singles and doubles will take place on Tuesday.
Sergio De Leon and Veronica Hernandez from Bowie took first place in mixed doubles with victories over Henrietta and Nocona.
Jamie Carpenter and Marcus Carter from Nocona placed third in the same bracket.
Monica Sanchez and Travis Hacker competed for Saint Jo, but the pair lost matches to Bland and Midway.
In boys’ doubles, Spencer Hopson and Zach Logan finished third in the boys’ doubles draw, with victories over Nocona, Paradise and Henrietta.
Clayton Ogg and Michael Shaw went 1-1 in boys’ singles for Bowie, and Jackrabbits’ Landon Woolf and Christian Sanchez split a pair of matches in boys’ doubles.
The tournament will wrap up on Tuesday with girls’ singles and doubles.

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
