TRACK AND FIELD: Vaughan scores big

Bowie High School senior multi-event performer Zeke Vaughan outscored 33 other schools at the Conference 3A-Region 2 meet on Saturday at Whitehouse’s Wildcat Stadium.
Yes, he did that all by himself.
Overall, Vaughan punched his ticket to the University Interscholastic League state track and field meet in three events. He tallied 26 points doing so.
“When you can go in three different events, it puts you at a different level,” Bowie head boys’ coach Daylon West said.
West said Vaughan prepared well for the 110-meter high hurdles – and Zeke eventually secured the gold medal in a time of 14.76 seconds.
“He took what we coached him to do and turned it into performance,” West said.
Vaughan dominated the field, winning the event roughly seven-tenths of a second ahead of Tyler Gray from Brock. Reshawn Parker of Hooks was third.
He qualified for the finals with a time of 15.98 in the preliminaries.
And that’s another thing, because of severe weather affecting the Tyler area on Friday; the preliminaries were run at 9 a.m. followed by finals at 5 p.m. on the same day. Read more, and see team scores, in the May 4 Bowie News.
