VOLLEYBALL: BJH season starts Sept. 8

The Bowie Junior High School volleyball teams will open the season with Henrietta at home at 4 p.m. on Sept. 8.
Practices will not start until the second day of school on Aug. 24. All four BJH teams will be in action that day.
The first road match of the season is set for Sept. 12 at Boyd. The “A” teams will participate in a tournament at Jacksboro on Sept. 17, and the regular-season finale will be on Oct. 17 versus the Tigerettes.
A junior high school cross country meet also will occur on Oct. 17. On Oct. 22, the Cottontails will compete at the “A” team district tournament which is slated for City View in Wichita Falls.
BJH coaches this year are Jaimie Hickey (“A” teams) and Brianna Watkins (“B” teams). This will mark Watkins first year as coach. Read more, and see the complete schedule, in the July 30 edition of The Bowie News.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg Sports Banquet

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
