VOLLEYBALL: Montague wins opening matches
The Montague Junior High volleyball team opened their 2016 season with back-to-back wins against Gold-Burg and Forestburg.
The Lady Eagles defeated the visiting Lady Bears 25-13 in both games on Aug. 25.
Serving kept Montague ahead in the game, with Averee Kleinhans leading the team with an outstanding 14 aces. Taygon Jones added eight, Gabby Valdez had four and Kate Sherwin contributed three. Syndi Messer, Jasmine Jones and Laythen Medford chipped in two aces each.
Averee Kleinhans paced the team with eight kills, while Taygon Jones contributed three.
Messer supplied the team with eight of the teams 14 assists, with Taygon Jones adding the other six for the victory.
In Forestburg on Aug. 29, the Lady Eagles sailed through their second win of the season, defeating the home team 25-12 in both matches. Averee Kleinhans paced the offense with eight kills and nine aces, with 91 percent accuracy.
Jones chipped in four aces with 100 percent accuracy on her spiking, including seven kills and four assists.
Montague will face off against Notre Dame on Sept. 8.
