HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Bowie schedule is ‘road-heavy’
By ERIC VICCARO
First-year Bowie High School head volleyball coach Breanna Jones has been dealt the hand of a road-heavy schedule.
Bowie will play only once at home during the non-district portion of the slate – against Ponder on Aug. 29 – as the Lady Rabbits try to maintain last year’s exemplary showing.
“Every team has those years when they play a lot on the road,” said Jones. “We’re going to put on a lot of mileage.”
Last year, on a team with six sensational seniors, Bowie advanced to the Conference 3A-Region I semifinals before bowing out in a five-set thriller versus Shallowater.
Bowie opens the regular season for the second straight year playing Conference 2A powerhouse Archer City on Aug. 8 at Midwestern State University’s D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Jones reported the start time for the match has yet to be determined. Read more in the July 8 Bowie News.
TAV convenes on July 20
Bowie High School will be the site of the Texas Advantage Volleyball team camp from July 20-22 at the school.
Subvarsity will have training sessions from 9 a.m. to noon with the varsity from 1-4 p.m.
There will be both group and individual instruction, given by the TAV staff. Training will be for skill, and specific positions. Team play will be an emphasis.
The cost is $100 per player.
Campers are asked to bring payment, and the release form, on the first day of camp.
Everyone will receive a T-shirt.
For information, call LJ Sariego at 1-817-689-6014. Read more volleyball camp news in the July 8 Bowie News.

Nocona new press box put into place
Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
