Lady Rabbits play final tournament

Published

The Bowie Lady Rabbits softball team saw a big improvement last weekend at their second tournament in Wichita Falls.
The Lady Rabbits went 2-1 at the Sunrise Tournament overall in the frigid temperatures.
Bowie first took on Wichita Falls High School on Thursday. The Lady Coyotes struck first in the bottom of the first inning. A wild pitch allowed the first the run to score from third. Three batters later a double scored another run as Wichita Falls led 2-0.
The Lady Rabbits answered back in the top of the second. Gracie Bentley was able to drive in a run grounding out to the shortstop to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the next inning Bowie was able to tie the score. Chelsey Ketchum hit a triple to center field with one out. Next batter Carrington Davis was able to get her home as she grounded out to the shortstop to make it 2-2.
The Lady Coyotes were able to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth. They strung together four hits and took advantage of a fielding error to score two runs to go up 4-2.
The Lady Rabbits immediately answered. They loaded the bases before Davis hit a sacrifice fly ball to score one of the runners.
Two batters later Hannah Love drove in a run on a single to tie the game up. Next batter Bentley hit a double to right field that scored the remaining two base runners that gave Bowie a 6-4 lead they were able to keep the rest of the way as they won.
With such a fun win behind them, the Lady Rabbits had to turn right around and play Burkburnett. For whatever reason Bowie got hit early and never recovered. The Lady Bulldogs scored nine runs in the first inning and ended up winning 12-0 as the Lady Rabbits mounted no offense and struggled all around.
Bowie was able to recover as they came back Friday morning to play Rider. The Lady Rabbits offense came alive on this day. RBIs from Bailey Grant, Bentley and Kimber Clower got Bowie a 3-0 in the first inning. The Lady Raiders cut the lead to 3-1 in the second inning, but that was as close as they got.
The Lady Rabbits scored two runs in each of the next four innings while Rider scored once more as Bowie ended up winning big 11-2.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
