Early voting for primaries ends Friday

Published

on

Early voting for the March 1 party primaries will come to an end on Feb. 25.
Within Montague County a total of 750 ballots were cast during the first week. The locations were not open Monday due to President’s Day. Polls are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Voters may go to any of four locations in the county – Montague County Annex Community Room, Montague; Nocona Community Center, Saint Jo Civic Center and Bowie Bible Baptist Church.
On election day, March 1, six other locations will be added.
In the primaries voters select their chosen party candidates. Winners of these elections will face off in the November general election.
In Montague County there is only one contested county race and it is on the Republican ticket. County Judge Kevin Benton is seeking his first full term challenged by Don Richey. Both men are from Bowie.
The remainder of county candidates are unopposed and all running on the Republican tickets. At the state level the race for District 68 State Representative is hotly contested as David Spiller seeks re-election against challenges from Mark Middleton, Craig Carter and Gary W. Franklin.
There also are multiple candidates on both tickets for all the top state races from Governor to various positions on the court of criminal appeals.
Sample ballots can be seen on the county website at co.montague.tx.us, click on the elections tab.
