Starting Nov. 6 North Mill Street will be closed from East Houston to Small Street as construction gets underway on the Nelson Street drainage project.
Drivers should avoid this area and seek out alternate routes as construction will take several months. Bowie City Manager Bert Cunningham said Atmos Energy will be relocating a large gas line in this area expected to take about two weeks.
MX Construction, contractor for the drainage project, will begin in the same area since it will already be closed off by the utility company. The overall drainage project will take a year.
Stony Lowrance, public works director, said Thursday the latest schedule shows the contractor will start by replacing a 12-inch sewer line that cross Mill Street at Nelson. The overall project is expected to take about a year. Three large drop boxes will be installed at Houston/Mill, in the intersection of Mill and Nelson and one on Mill.
