3 Bowie seniors ‘sign’ for their future education

Bowie High School staff and students celebrated its first “Signing Day” on April 25 looking on as three seniors signed their letters of intent to pursue different paths to higher education.
Principal Joanne Keeler said she was excited to present this program and show students the success they can have if they work hard and they also could be signing up for their future. She hopes to see the program expand adding more students who are planning their futures.
Jacobi McGregor signed his letter of intent to attend Ottawa University in Kansas on a powerflifting scholarship. He plans to study sports administration.
Iron Atkinson will be joining the United States Army. His grandmother Sherri Waldrop, looked on as he signed the paperwork.
Traycee Stewart, daughter of Susan and James Stewart, will attending West Texas State A&M University on a music education scholarship.

Bowie Library’s summer reading begins June 9

Bowie Library’s Summer Reading program opens at 10 a.m. on June 9 at the Bowie Community Center with a bubble truck party.
Come prepared to get soapy and wet as this popular series kicks off the summer. This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story,” with a focus on prehistoric items and dinosaurs.
Summer reading is open to children ages 0-12 and these free programs will be at the Bowie Community Center at 10 a.m. every Tuesday in June and July excluding June 23, July 14 and July 21 when it will be at the library.
Children will be given a reading log to bring with them to each program. Each child also receives a book at the end of the series.
The program will include the following activities: June 16, Bright Star Theater Group; June 23, Read and Go take home craft; July 7, dinosaur exhibit; July 14, Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum program; July 21, Read and Go take home craft and July 28, Creature Teacher.
‘Tween and Teen
There will be a summer reading program for this age group of those 11 to 18. Programs at are 2 p.m. June 11, 18 and 25 all at the library.
Youngsters can do dinosaur scratch art, air-dry clay diffuser disc and take part in an escape room.

Nocona Library, Friends, NISD plan summer reading events

Youngsters will enjoy a pair of programs during June and July featuring reading themes presented by the Nocona Public Library, Friends of the Library and Nocona Elementary.
Nocona Library
Get ready for a “dino-mite” time this summer as kids “Unearth a Story” in the summer reading program at Nocona Public Library. This free program is open to children in grades 1-5.
Registration is underway at the library or call 825-6373. Space is limited so stop by the library to register. The programs are at noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays in June and July. Children may bring a lunch and water.
Following the Texas State Library’s summer theme, there will be a focus on dinosaurs and history exploring archaeology, paleontology and stories for kids. Activities will be a treasure hunt, painting on pots, leather tooling, beadwork, painting hieroglyphics and setting up a time capsule. Pick up a reading log today when you sign up.
Nocona Elementary
This free program is presented by the Friends of the Library and Elementary to coincide with the free summer lunch program in the school district. It opens on July 8, July 15 and July 22 from 11 a.m. to noon at the elementary cafeteria.
On July 8 Unearth a story about dinosaurs, on July 15 come learn about animals and on July 22, there will be awards and prizes, plus a Foamy Flakes Party from 10 a.m. to noon at Mary David Park downtown, Wear clothes you can get wear. Top prize in each category will win a scooter. Pick up a reading guide.
This program will coincide with Nocona Independent School District’s summer meal program for children and teens ages 18 and younger and enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years of age. Breakfast and lunch will be served June 22-July 24, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Participating families do not have to apply, register or provide identification. The U.S. Department of Agriculture funds the summer meals program. Visit SummerFood.org.

Jammin’ at the Justin on May 30

Jammin’ at the Justin will be from 6-9 p.m. on May 30 at the H.J. Justin Community Room at 100 Clay in Nocona.
All area musicians and music lovers are welcome to attend and share their talents. There is no admission fee, bring your own food and drinks.
Musician tips this month will go to the Clear Choice Pregnancy Resource Center.
