Cathy Hamilton Horneman
April 20, 1968 – January 8, 2025
SHERMAN – Cathy Hamilton Horneman, 56, passed away on Jan. 8, 2025.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the White Family Funeral Home on Friday.
Burial will follow at Montague Cemetery in Montague.
Cathy was born April 20, 1968, in Dallas, adopted by G.C. and Wilma Jean (Overton) Hamilton. After graduating from Nocona High School in 1986, she attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX. She then went on to further her education with nursing school in Gainesville. Cathy enjoyed caring for others for many years as a nurse in Gainesville and Sherman. Later in life she worked as a supervisor for the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma for the last 10 years.
Cathy loved gambling, spending time with her mother, shopping, and collecting Mickey and Minnie Mouses.
She is preceded in death by her father, G.C. Hamilton; husband, Vernon Horneman; grandfathers, Perry Overton and Lee Hamilton; grandmothers, Ruby Overton and Jewel Baggett; nephew, Christopher Hamilton and uncle, Joe Overton.
Cathy is survived by her mother, Wilma Hamilton of Montague; brother, Chris Hamilton of Montague; sister-in-law, Kyla Hamilton of Montague; brother-in-law Renzie Horneman and wife Tracie of Hope, AR; nieces, Charlie Hamilton, Judy Rosenberger, C.J. Hamilton, Chloe Sanders, Joanna Perry and Michelle Overton; nephew, Christopher King; along will numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Alaine ‘Fay’ Vowell
February 11, 1930 – January 4, 2025
BOWIE – Alaine “Fay” Vowell, 94, died Jan. 4, 2025.
A private memorial will take place at a later date.
She was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Louisville, KY to Caperton Swearingen and Gladys (Grant) Harris.
After graduation from Campbellsville University, she served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Navy. She continued her nursing career for more than 40 years before retiring. On May 28, 1955, she married Otis “Raymond” Vowell in San Diego CA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Hill Harris and husband, Ray Vowell.
Fay is survived by son, Ray Vowell, Bowie; daughter, Katherine Estes, Irving; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Norval Lee Harris; and sisters, May Louise Elder and Betty Harris.

Joe Earl Phillips
December 27, 1934 – January 11, 2025
FORESTBURG – Joe Earl Phillips, 90, passed away at his home on Jan. 11, 2025.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Jan. 18 at Sanger Cemetery in Sanger. Pastor Ronnie Conyers will officiate the service.
Joe was born in rural Comanche County, TX on Dec. 27, 1934 to the late Grover E. and Sudie Phillips.
On Nov. 19, 1953, Joe married the love of his life, Jackie Odom, in Gainesville and together they raised two sons, Russ and Rand.
Joe served as a police officer for the Arlington Police Department for 31 years and retired as captain. He is also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; one son, Rand Phillips; his parents; and one brother, Clayton Phillips.
Joe is survived by one son, Russ Phillips and wife, Jerri, Arlington; daughter-in-law, Yu Lan Phillips, Arlington; grandchildren, Melanie Patterson, Russ A. Phillips and William Salee; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Roberto Hernandez
September 18, 1991 – January 2, 2025
BOWIE – Roberto Hernandez Valadez, 33, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
A visitation will be on from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the Montague County Cowboy Church in Montague with Pastor Gregg Shaw officiating. The family will also receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery near Stoneburg with pallbearers, Cezar Chavez, Irving Perez, Stacy Rater, Jesus Moreno, Miguel Gonzalez, Ruben Gonzalez and honorary pallbearer, Eduardo Hernandez.
Roberto was born on Sept. 18, 1991 to Roberto Hernandez Sr. and Raquel Valadez in Guadalupe D.B. Chihuahua, Mexico. After graduation from Bowie High School in 2010, he had numerous jobs working at McDonald’s and Dos Chilis. He then went to work in the oilfield for Pipe Maintenance Inspection in Springtown, Energy Service Company in Bowie, Nichols Oil Tools in San Angelo, Elite Hydrostatic Testing, LLC in Bowie, Elite Irrigation in Bowie and various other side jobs.
Roberto loved to spend time with his daughter, Yariana Paulete Holguin, and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed going to Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Bible Study and church services at Central Baptist Church in Bowie, Clay County Pioneer Reunion, the lake and spending time with family and friends.
Roberto is survived by his stepmom, Melina Chavez Hernandez; brother, Irving Perez; sisters, Mayra Odalis Chavez and Rosa Chavez; biological mom, Raquel Valadez; biological dad, Roberto Hernandez Sr.; daughter, Yariana Paulete Holguin; biological sisters, Yuliana Hernandez and Adilene Hernandez; half brother, Pablo Hernandez; special friends, the Nored Family and the Rater Family; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Baptist Church, 710 W. Wise Street in Bowie, Texas.
