Nine local students are going into the lemonade business on May 21 as part of “Lemonade Day Houston,” a national foundation out of Houston.

Students from the districts of Nocona, Prairie Valley, Montague, GoldBurg and Saint Jo in fifth through seventh grades were invited to participate in the first time event.

Students take courses in marketing, accounting and business planning to gain knowledge needed to run their own business: A lemonade stand.

Nine students are participating in the event.

The foundation’s website states the event “empowers today’s youth and tomorrow’s entrepreneur’s through helping them start, own and operate their very own business.”

Nocona Economic Development Corporation Executive Director James Yohe said several awards will be given, including: Best Business Plan, Best Recipe, Most Profitable Business and Best Stand. The Best Stand Award will be from a proposed drawing of the students stand and budget, since the NEDC did not have a stand sponsor to provide the materials to all participants the first time.

Read the full story in the mid-week News and see what students are participating and where their stands will be located.
