Montague County citizens are invited to remember fallen heroes this Memorial Day in a pair of ceremonies at the county Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts.

This is the 150th anniversary of Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868.

Bowie VFW Post No. 8789 will conduct its ceremonies at 10 a.m. on May 30 at the post home at 707 E. Nelson Street.

VFW members and Boy Scout Trooper No. 116 will present the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action table ceremony. Nocona VFW 8558 will conduct Memorial Day Services at 10 a.m. May 20 at the Nocona Cemetery.

The program will be highlighted with special music, rifle squad, cannon brigade and a special keynote speaker, Don Forrester.

The speaker is the twin brother of Capt. Ronald W. Forrester, USMC-MIA since Dec. 27, 1972, the day he was shot down over Vietnam.

Forrester is an author, motivational speaker, and licensed master social worker with 45 years experience working with children and families.
