A lot of smiling faces, long-horned cows, and some very well-dressed but dusty cowboys, all made their way into the community room in the courthouse annex Oct. 18 to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for an awesome era in the shared past that all remember as “The Old Chisholm Trail.”

Initially, the Montague County Historical Commission began making plans to host a gathering of neighboring county historical commissions to talk about how life in their communities resumed following the war between the states.

As plans progressed, MCHC members became convinced that all the local historians should have their chance to join in the fun. The invitation was opened and nearly 80 people turned out to remember the past and to consider the future impact of that “trail” in the communities.
