Election filing underway in Nocona

Election filing began Jan. 16 and will continue through Feb. 15 for the entities in Nocona for an election on May 4.
The City of Nocona, Nocona Independent School District and Nocona Hospital District are the only entities in the county who still have elections in May. The remainder of the other entities moved their elections to November in conjunction with the county.
For the Nocona City Council the places of mayor, filled by Robert Fenoglio and Councilors Tom Horn and Don Davis will be on the ballots. As of Thursday, Fenoglio and Horn had filed.
For the NISD board, place three filled now by Greg Fuller and place four filled by Pat Keck will be on the ballot.
On the hospital district board there are four at-large places up for election. They are presently filled by Melissa Murphey, Chris Keck, Ken Koontz and Charlie Brown. As of Tuesday, Murphey, Keck and Koontz have filed for re-election.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.

Youngsters attend swimming lessons this week
