‘Mardi Gras Nocona-Style’ ready to roll Feb. 21-23

Downtown Nocona, will come alive with the ninth annual Mardi Gras Nocona-Style Feb. 21-23.
This family-friendly event is three days of food, fun, music and parades. Every day holds a unique Nocona Style adventure.
Activities will start at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21st with The Krewe de Barkus Dog Parade sponsored by Lucky Paws Animal Shelter. Dressed-up pets and their people will kick off the festival.
Entries pay $5 donation to Lucky Paws. To be eligible for judging and prizes, please pre-register at the Nocona Chamber of Commerce in Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum at 1522 E. Hwy 82. Otherwise, you may register at the park beginning at 4:30 pm.
The dog parade will be followed by the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at Mardi Gras Headquarters, 217 Clay Street.
Feb. 22 festivities begin with the Krewe de Kiddos Parade at 5:30 p.m. where children are invited to dress up and line up for the downtown parade by Daddy Sam’s on Clay Street.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
