Bowie High School senior guard Courtney Brady attempted her first 3-pointer at the 5-minute, 35-second mark of the first quarter.
Brady canned the shot. She proceeded to make seven more overall as part of a career-high 31-point performance as Bowie doubled up Nocona 80-40 in District 3A-9 girls’ basketball action on Tuesday.
“Courtney is a great player for them,” Nocona head coach Brad McGann said. “She is always capable of putting up big numbers and she can shoot lights out.”
Bowie head coach Colby Davis-Pastusek was equally praiseworthy.
“It was an impressive performance,” the coach commented. “A game like that is one she’ll never forget.”
Brady made seven of those 3-balls in the first half alone, drawing plenty of ooh’s from the fans inside BHS’s main gymnasium.
Overall, Brady was 8-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, a sizzling 62 percent. She made 10-of-17 field goals overall (59 percent). She also pulled down seven rebounds and swiped three steals.
“She got us rolling tonight,” Brady said. “They were in a zone, and Courtney started knocking down shots, which loosened up their defense.”
Then the Lady Rabbits were able to penetrate to the basket at the elbow, and other players became involved in the offense.
