HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bowie boys ‘charge’ to win over Nocona

Bowie High School boys’ basketball player Chase Hall had an unlimited charge account during Tuesday’s District 3A-9 clash against Nocona.
Hall was credited for taking five charges, including three in the first half. It appeared as if he took even more charges than that as Bowie defeated Nocona 55-45 – taking the district lead in the process.
“Bowie came out and made us very uncomfortable offensively,” Nocona head coach Tyson Mankin said. “They stepped in and took three charges early in the first quarter, I believe, before we even got a shot off. Those were big defensive possessions for them.”
Bowie head coach Doug Boxell agreed.
“It was huge, what Chase did,” Boxell said. “We kept them from scoring by taking charges. Those were some of the biggest plays in the game.”
Hall also contributed team-bests with nine rebounds, including four on the offensive glass, and three assists. He also had a couple of steals.
Boxell said Bowie had to play better defense this time around against Nocona, and that’s exactly what the Jackrabbits did – holding Nocona to three first-quarter points and 10 first-half points overall.
“They have some good 3-point shooters and they like to drive and kick the ball to the outside,” Boxell said. “We had to take away their right-hand dribble. We had to stay with their shooters and not help out on the drive.”
