Growing pains for Bowie volleyball

Bowie High School’s volleyball team finished Thursday’s pool play on a high note with a three-set victory over Pilot Point at the Whitesboro Tournament.
The Lady Rabbits topped Pilot Point by scores of 24-26, 25-8, and 25-20.
“I was proud of them for coming back and winning the final match,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “It improved our morale to end the day.”
Bowie’s record stood at 5-8 heading into Friday’s home match with Millsap. The Lady Rabbits return to the Whitesboro Tournament today for consolation play.
Bowie had been placed in Pool B with Sherman, Paris and Pilot Point, and the Lady Rabbits went 1-2. Stark said losing to Sherman in three was tough.
“I felt like we ‘beat ourselves’ in the Sherman match,” Stark said. “Our serve receive isn’t as strong as where it needs to be. We are making too many mental, unforced errors.”
Stark said she will be working with the team to improve on communication skills.
The Lady Rabbits are a young team, sometimes playing brilliant aplomb while other times they simply can’t get on track and allow the opposition long serving runs.

Rodgers signs to Ranger College

Bowie’s Nathan Rodgers signed his letter of intent to run cross country and track at Ranger College.
The senior, who is the son of Ryan and Jessica Rodgers, has spent the past three years running on the varsity cross country team as one of its top runners. He helped the team win the district title in 2020 and has helped the Jackrabbits to team district runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022.
While running in the regional meet the past three years, Rodgers had his best finish this past fall at 32nd.
Rodgers also played varsity basketball his senior year and helped the Jackrabbits make it to the regional quarterfinals.
“Ranger offered me quite a good deal,” Rodgers said. “The coach is a good one who will develop me and make me better. I already met some of my teammates so we already have that bond. All around it was just a good college.”
