Plane crash kills father and son

Black smoke arose from a pasture on Lone Star Road Friday afternoon after a twin-engine Cessna 414 crashed at 3:40 p.m. killing a father and son from the Houston area.

A  1974 twin-engine Cessna 414 crashed around 3:40 p.m. near Lone Star Road off Highway 59 on  private property about a mile north of Bowie Municipal Airport. The plane was destroyed by fire following the crash.
DPS Trooper Tony Fulton identified 51-year-old Lawrence Liptack and his 10-year-old son, Landon, Mantel, TX near Houston, as the victims.

The crash is located a short ways from the  Bowie Municipal Airport, where the pilot could have possibly been attempting to land. Bowie Police received an emergency call that a plane was on fire in a field behind a home on Lone Star Road and that someone was in the inside the wreckage. Local fire departments responded along with other emergency personnel.

Montague County Department of Public Safety Officers and other personnel secured the scene awaiting investigators from the FAA and from the National Transportation Safety Board, who will lead the accident investigation.

According to the FAA N-number registry the Cessna was registered to a Lawrence R. Liptack, Manvel, TX, in Brazoria County.   (Photo by Barbara Green)
