After more than a year of fundraising and grant writing, community members gathered Jan. 8 on South Airport Road in Nocona to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Nocona Lucky Paws Animal Shelter.
The cool breeze and cloudy skies had no affect on the excitement of over 20 individuals who gathered with their shovels for the ceremony.
The group included Mayor Robert Fenoglio, numerous board members and two four-legged friends.
Donors contributed $90,000 to the new facility, and the nonprofit organization received a $20,000 grant from an area foundation that will fund custom kennels inside the shelter.
