WICHITA FALLS – USAF Ret. CFMSGT James R. “Jim” Nelson, 82, died May 28, 2016 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. June, 1 at Jerry Woods Funeral Home in Nocona.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. June 2 in the Garden of Compassion at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls.
Nelson was born Dec. 8, 1933 in Des Moines, IA to Vera Vivian Nelson. He married Mary Eva (Reed) on Oct. 29, 1952 in Pampa, TX while he was attending USAF tech training school in Amarillo. They had five children.
A veteran of both the Korean (as a member of United States Marine Corps) and Vietnam war, with more than a dozen medals, honors and commendations for meritorious service on record, as well as earning a degree in business administration from Midwestern State University and was a private business owner/operator for 40 years.
Nelson founded and operated Commonwealth Properties and Commonwealth Construction as an independent contractor throughout the 21st century and into the new millennium. In addition, he provided an “at cost” service as a Texas state certified instructor of concealed handgun classes in Nocona from 1993-2007.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vera V. Nelson; son, Philip Jacob Nelson III and wife, Mary E. Nelson.
He is survived by three daughters, Janet Nelson-Haynes, Nocona, JoAnn Nelson-Bell, Arlington and Kyle Nelson-Cook, Wichita Falls; son, Jon E. Nelson, Arlington; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
