Three local athletes received the right to participate in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association all-star games last week.

And all three of them had a pronounced impact for their teams.

Forestburg’s Taten Vann was the East’s leading receiver, and he caught a touchdown pass in the second quarter that put his team on the board.

“It was mental focus,” Vann said. “I got up there, grabbed the ball and held on to it.”

Vann said he was pleased to make the reception, although he was disappointed the West defeated the East 40-20 in the Division II all-star game at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

“Even though we didn’t come out on top,” said Vann, “I had fun meeting new teammates, and it was a good time for everybody.”

The West defeated the East for the first time in the Division II game for the first time since 2009.
