The Bowie and Forestburg High School volleyball teams were part of the first-ever “Battle at the Dome” on Tuesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls.
Unfortunately, both teams returned to Montague County with losses.
Archer City, ranked eighth in Conference 2A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association preseason poll, rallied in the third set and eventually topped Bowie 25-18, 16-25, 27-25, 25-12.
Bowie had a sizable lead in the third set – only to have the rotation go against them late. The teams were tied at 25-all before the Lady Cats prevailed.
In many ways, Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark was responsible for the formation of the “Battle at the Dome,” which featured several area schools including Wichita Falls Old High, Holliday, Brock and Wichita Falls Rider among others.
“I really liked the event and the venue,” Stark said. “I thought it ran smoothly.”
Midwestern State University volleyball coaches and players worked the concession stands and served as libero trackers and line judges. Read more in the Aug. 13 Bowie News.
