The Bowie High School volleyball team was drowsy during its opening match of the Buckle Up For Lane’s Sake tournament.
The Lady Rabbits suffered a sweep versus nemesis Callisburg, 25-20, 25-18 in Pool D at Nocona Baptist Church.
Then Bowie reeled off three straight wins to qualify for the Gold Bracket set for today. The Lady Rabbits open with the tall and lanky Celina group at 11 a.m.
“We didn’t have a lot of energy in the first game,” said Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark. “They went on a lot of scoring runs. We didn’t block well and we missed four serves in the first set.”
Consistency, that’s what Stark is asking for from the Lady Rabbits. During the final three matches of the day versus district rival Jacksboro, Tioga and Bonham, Bowie showed just that.
In other action, tournament host Nocona had a strong showing by going 3-1 on the day. However, Paradise grabbed second place based on tie-breaking procedures. Read more in the Sept. 3 Bowie News.
