BOWIE – Peggy Wheeler Raub, 82, passed away on March, 17, 2017 after a brief illness.
The memorial service was at the First Baptist Church in Portland on March 25 with burial thereafter at the Gregory Cemetery.
She was born the fifth of six children in Dawson County near Lamesa on Feb. 17, 1935. Until the end of her life, Peggy was full of energy, joy and happiness.
Someone called her “The happiest person they had ever met.” She enjoyed life, her grandchildren, and the “old ladies group” at the Portland First Baptist Church. She loved God and considered Him the source of her many blessings in life.
She was raised on a family farm in the Texas Panhandle. Peggy graduated from Ralls High School and attended college at Texas Tech in Lubbock where she earned a master’s degree in home economics. She was a long time high school teacher and left a mark on many students. She lived in Bowie for many years and taught at Gold-Burg High School from 1981 to 1992.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Denton (Boyd); son, Timothy Raub (Rosa), Portland, TX; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one brother, Wade Wheeler, Lubbock.
