Jim Bowie Days rodeo entertains spectators during three nights

The 52nd Jim Bowie Days Rodeo went off without a hitch last week, running Thursday through Saturday nights at the Rodeo Grounds.
All days were hot, but featured an ever present wind that was better than nothing as the sun set early into the rodeos on each night.
People from all over the state and surrounding area came out to fill the arena all three nights. There were even some people from as far as Montana who attended one of the nights.
With the emphasis of putting on a show, no one event took longer than another unless there was some animal difficulty.
The emcee and head rodeo clown were miked throughout to keep the crowd’s energy up in between competitors, with the emcee being the straight man to the clown’s more wild energy.
There were special events or themes each night. Thursday night saw the FFA team calf scramble. On Friday was the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night in support of breast cancer awareness.
Saturday saw the crowning of the Miss and Little Miss Jim Bowie Days. After the rodeo, there was live music from Stevie Bounds and Simply Honky Tonk band.
The rodeo was sanctioned by the United Professional Rodeo Association and the Texas Cowboys Rodeo Association.

Rodgers signs to Ranger College

Bowie’s Nathan Rodgers signed his letter of intent to run cross country and track at Ranger College.
The senior, who is the son of Ryan and Jessica Rodgers, has spent the past three years running on the varsity cross country team as one of its top runners. He helped the team win the district title in 2020 and has helped the Jackrabbits to team district runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022.
While running in the regional meet the past three years, Rodgers had his best finish this past fall at 32nd.
Rodgers also played varsity basketball his senior year and helped the Jackrabbits make it to the regional quarterfinals.
“Ranger offered me quite a good deal,” Rodgers said. “The coach is a good one who will develop me and make me better. I already met some of my teammates so we already have that bond. All around it was just a good college.”
