Dorothy Mae Whitecotton

June 15, 1932 – May 8, 2022
NOCONA – Dorothy Mae Whitecotton passed away on May 8, 2022 in Nocona at the age of 89.
The family received friends at 1 p.m. on May 13 at Scott-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. A service followed at 2 p.m. at the chapel with interment at Montague Cemetery.
Dorothy was born in Bowie to Roy and Ilus Tate McMillion on June 15, 1932. She attended Stoneburg High School and was valedictorian. This is where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband Robbie Whitecotton. They married on Jan. 9, 1952 and remained together for 70 years.
Together this dynamic duo ran Whitecotton Greenhouse. They started the greenhouse in the early 1970s with vegetables only. They added flowers in 1980s and partnered with her son and daughter in law, David and Helen, in 1988.
She loved both the customers and the flowers. Customers and employees could attest to her honest, fair, focused and devoted business mind. Dorothy was a very dependable person. If she told you she was going to do something then you could consider it done. Dorothy enjoyed sewing clothes, quilting and doing puzzles but after her family, the greenhouse was her great love.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Janet Whitecotton.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robbie Whitecotton; sons, Robert Whitecotton and David Whitecotton and wife Helen; daughter in law, Diana Smith; seven grandchildren, Lorinda Faye Timms, Thomas James Whitecotton, Sarah Anne Morrow, Michael Gene Whitecotton, Mark Christopher Whitecotton, Fayde Hunter Smith and Timothy James Whitecotton; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Montague Volunteer Fire Department.
