2A-10 VOLLEYBALL: Lady Horns sweep Lady Bulldogs

The Forestburg closed out the home portion of the 2014 season playing Prairie Valley on Friday evening.
The Lady Horns improved their record to 20-15 overall, and 6-7 in District 10-2A after a straight-set victory by the scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-13.
Prairie Valley fell to 5-27, 2-11.
“The team played well,” said Lady Horns coach Rosana Barbosa. “They received and passed the ball well.”
After the match, the two senior players, Virginia Cody and Kendall Wallace, were honored during homecoming festivities at the Horns football game against Gold-Burg. Later that night, Wallace was named Homecoming Queen.
“They were our team captains,” Barbosa said. “They did a great job motivating and keeping the team together.”
Haley Nolan paced the Lady Horns with seven kills, three digs, two assists and an ace serve.
Hope Phipps recorded four kills, four assists and five aces. Wallace tallied three kills and two assists. Cody added two kills and eight assists.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
