After several weeks of Bowie City Council meetings filled with angry tirades surrounding the budget and utility rates, Monday night’s session was calm with virtually no discussion as the panel handled a brief agenda of business.
The council was informed of Machelle Mills’ resignation. See related story on this page.
The final piece of the 2018-19 budgetary picture was completed with approval of the 2018 tax rate of .5250 cents per $100 in property value.
This is a 7.56 percent increase above the effective tax rate, the amount required to generate the same taxes as the prior year, although the 2017 rate was .53 cents.
Higher property values creates the fluctuation. For a home valued at $100,000 the tax increase will bring a $36.90 increase for the year.
