City of Bowie served with lawsuit from Midwest
The City of Bowie has been served with a lawsuit related to requiring its outside of the city water customers receive trash collection.
Paperwork for the suit was received Aug. 1 cited as Midwest Waste Services LLC vs. the City of Bowie. Midwest operated a commercial and residential waste collection service in the extra-territorial jurisdiction of the city.
The suit states its customers received a letter dated June 30, 2018 that stated the city would require all customers receiving water from the city to use Waste Connections, the city’s designated waste collection company effective Sept. 1, 2018.
Midwest sent a letter to the city on Aug. 10, 2018 notifying Bowie it “lacked statutory authority” to require individuals or entities outside of its corporate limits to use its waste collection services.

Commissioners approve election judges, briefly consider budget
As the days tick away to the November elections, Montague County commissioners gave approval to the slate of election judges, alternates and clerks for the 2026-27 election year.
The court approval the slate of officials on Monday, along with the purchase of a NeuraScanner for the longer ballot sheets. County Judge Kevin Benton, who spoke in the absence of Elections Administrator Ginger Wall who was out sick, said the scanner has been needed for a while and will be paid for through a line-item budget adjustment moving $6,650 from election judges to election supplies. The court also approved the list judges, alternate judges and clerks.
