GOLF NOTEBOOK: Glow ball event set for July 25
There will be a glow-in-the-dark golf tournament beginning at 5 p.m. on July 25 at Indian Oaks Golf Club in Nocona.
This will be an 18-hole tournament featuring a two-person scramble format.
Golfers will play nine holes before dark, and then there will be a meal served in the Nocona Community Center.
Following the meal, golfers will return to the course to play nine more holes.
The cost to enter is $30 per person, which doesn’t include the cost of a cart. However, carts are welcome.
There will be a raffle for a golf cart. Tickets cost $100, and they are available in the Indian Oaks pro shop.
There will be cash prizes. The amount of money paid will be determined by the number of teams entered.
Proceeds from this event will go toward course improvements at Indian Oaks.

Tuesday scramble (Twisted Oaks)
Lynn Heller was closest-to-the-pin on Hole No. 3 and Snake Allen was closest on the ninth hole during the Tuesday scramble on July 7 at Twisted Oaks Golf Club.
Kent Healer, Ty Healer, Don Biehl and Allen were the first-place team, recording a 29 score.
Eric Shaw, Greg Shaw, Jordan Shaw and Mike Shaw placed second, with a 30.

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
