Monday morning, school administrators and athletic directors met at the Region 9 Education Center in Wichita Falls.
They received packets containing information concerning University Interscholastic League realignment, and there are some changes that will impact area teams.
This alignment will be in place for the next two academic calendar years (2016-18).
“We felt like the district was going to remain the same, and it’s not a surprise we went to Region I,” said Bowie Independent School District superintendent Steven Monkres.
With a move to Region I, Bowie is now much more likely to compete in playoff games at destinations such as Lubbock and Odessa.
Bowie’s football opponents remain the same in the district; however, the teams will shift from Region II to Region I in basketball, which serves primarily west Texas.
Forestburg head coach Wayne Tuckwell said he didn’t expect the Longhorns to be placed in a five-team district. Read more, and see complete alignments, in the Feb. 3 Bowie News.
Prairie Valley’s Lacey Eldred hopes to keep possession while along the baseline during Friday’s District 1A-21 game versus Tioga, who won 51-43. Prairie Valley and Tioga will no longer be in the same district in boys’ and girls’ basketball for the 2016-18 academic cycle. (News photo by Kayla Jean Woods)
