HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bowie boys, girls smother City View
The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team wrapped up its fifth straight district championship with a 62-35 victory on Tuesday.
Although Bowie was tied with Paradise in District 3A-9 at 12-2, the Lady Rabbits topped the Lady Panthers twice to take the golden ball.
Bowie enters the Conference 3A playoffs with a 24-8 overall record. The Lady Rabbits will play Whitesboro on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Denton High School.
The game marked the return of Kamryn Cantwell, and she helped out with five points, one assist and one steal.
BOYS
Bowie 76, City View 27
The Bowie High School boys’ basketball team moved one step closer to a possible district championship with a 76-27 thrashing at City View in Wichita Falls.
Bowie has won eight straight games, improving to 19-10 overall, 11-1 in District 3A-9. The Jackrabbits remained one game ahead of Henrietta.
Bowie and Henrietta play in the regular-season finale on Feb. 16, with still the chance it will be for the district championship.
Zeke Vaughan paced all Bowie scorers with 16 points. Read more in the Feb. 13 Bowie News.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
