Atmos, Texas Trees to plant trees in Bowie Wednesday

Atmos Energy Corporation, Texas 811 and The Texas Trees Foundation have joined together to fuel greener and cleaner communities.

Bowie will be among the recipients of 811 trees across Texas when 47 trees are planted at the Bowie High School located at 341 U.S. Highway 287 north.

A tree planting ceremony with school officials and representatives from Atmos Energy will be at 1 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the high school campus.

At Bowie High School the trees will be planted along the entryway and near the new Agriculture Science building.

This initiative started on Aug. 11 which is also known as 811 Day. Atmos Energy encourages customers to call 811 before they dig.

By calling 811 in advance, property owners and contractors are connected to their state’s one-call center, which notifies all appropriate utilities about the excavation.

Professional locators mark all underground utility lines at the digging site with flags or spray paint.

“We are thrilled to partner with Texas 811 and the Texas Trees Foundation to create a long lasting positive impact across the communities we serve,” John Paris, president of Mid-Tex division, Atmos Energy said. “Natural gas is a clean and efficient fuel source and planting trees ensures a cleaner and greener Texas.”

“We estimate more than 5,000 individuals will directly benefit from this partnership,” Matt Grubisich, with Texas Trees Foundation, said. “This is a great way to show Texas the importance of calling 811 before digging while providing trees for our communities.

Get ready, Bowie the Free Comic Book Day Mini-Con is back and bigger than ever for its second annual event on May 3 at the Bowie Public Library.

Stoneburg VFD readies fish fry for May 3

Members of the Stoneburg Volunteer Fire Department will serve up its annual fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 3 at the Bowie Community Center, 413 Pelham Street.
Dinner includes fish with all the trimmings, served for donations only.
There will be a prize drawing for a Pitboss Savannah Pellet Grill and a custom built ARIS Rifle 5.56 NATO. Tickets are $10. To buy tickets call Bill Prater at 841-0263, Chad Long at 531-2711 or Chad Gerlach at 531-0726.
