HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Bowie misses chances

Friday’s District 3A-9 softball game turned into a case of missed opportunities for Bowie High School.
In the bottom of the sixth, Taylor McCarty was thrown out at home trying to extend a double into a run. Earlier in the game, Kellbie Throckmorton was tagged out at second, which could have given the Lady Rabbits a much-needed run at that point in the contest.
“They were able to make the scoop and tag (on the McCarty play),” Bowie head softball coach Brant Farris said. “In 20-20 hindsight, I probably should have held her at third base.”
Henrietta had a small army backing up the ball, and that proved to squelch giving the Lady Rabbits what would have been the go-ahead run.
Earlier in the game, Throckmorton was thrown out at second as the result of an unlucky-for-Bowie-but-lucky-for-Henrietta bounce.
“The ball bounced right off the umpire’s shin guard,” Farris noted.
It marked Bowie’s first 3A-9 loss of the season, dropping the team to 13-7-1, 5-1. The Lady Rabbits played at Holliday on Tuesday before returning home to face Nocona on Friday. Read more, and see the box score and District 3A-9 standings, in the March 30 Bowie News.
