Bowie High School No. 1 singles player Katelin Price won both of her matches at The Bowie Invitational on Monday.
Price defeated Nocona’s Rachel Patrick, 8-2, and then followed that with an 8-6 victory over Holliday in the championship.
Patrick ended up taking fourth for the Lady Indians.
“Bowie did well at the tournament,” Bowie head tennis coach Avery Tate said. “I had two teams win their brackets and two other teams who fought hard, and came out with second.”
Tate said the tournament prepared the boys and girls for the District 3A-9 meet set for Bowie’s tennis courts on April 5-6.
There was a seeding meeting to determine positions for the tournament on Wednesday.
“The players were able to see who their competition is for next week, and make adjustments were they are needed,” Tate added.
Meagan Russell and Myah Russell, the sister act that qualified for state in 2015, earned wins over two teams from Boyd and one from Henrietta.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.

In the eight-and-under division, Whitley Goins won the top cowgirl and Trell Carpenter won top cowboy. Goins got the fastest times in barrel racing, flags and mystery event. Carpenter got the fastest time in poles and goats.
In the 9-12 age division, Sage Keck won the top cowgirl while Chisum Carpenter won the top cowboy. Keck got the fastest times in four of the five divisions. Only Layna Taylor getting the fastest goat time prevented her from winning in a clean sweep.
