MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Workman fares better this time around
Bowie Hall of Honor pitcher Brandon Workman fared much better in his second rehabilitation stint with the Portland Sea Dogs.
The Sea Dogs are the Boston Red Sox Double-A affiliate.
Workman pitched three innings in an Aug. 22 game versus the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
He allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out two. The earned run he allowed came on a home run.
New Hampshire eventually blanked Portland 4-0. The Sea Dogs are now 51-76 overall, last in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division.
Workman is 0-2 with a 6.14 earned-run average. He’s throw 14-2/3 innings, with 10 earned runs on 16 hits, 13 strikeouts and nine walks.
Workman graduated from Bowie High School in 2007, and eventually pitched a scoreless eighth inning in Game Six of the 2013 World Series – helping the Red Sox defeat the St. Louis Cardinals.
It’s unclear whether Workman will pitch at the major league level this year; however, the likelihood grows longer by the day.
