OUTDOORS: Dove season begins tomorrow
Dove populations are soaring and this will be the longest season in 80 years, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reports.
Dove season opens on Sept. 1.
A new 90-day season means hunters will have 20 more days compared with previous years.
Roughly 10 percent of the nation’s 350 million mourning doves reside in Texas, along with nine million white-winged doves.
Based on the field observations by TPWD wildlife biologists, prospects for the 2016-17 hunting season are good to excellent.
Dove season in the North Zone runs from Sept. 1 to Nov. 13 and Dec. 17 to Jan. 1, 2017. Other dates are: Central Zone: Sept. 1 to Nov. 6 and Dec. 17 to Jan. 8, 2017; South Zone: Sept. 23-Nov. 13 and Dec. 17-Jan. 23, 2017.
The daily bag limit for doves statewide is 15, and possession limit 45.
