LOCAL: Bushido Kai fares well
The Bowie Bushido Kai group participated in the third annual Monica Lopez Open at Decatur on Aug. 21.
Ericka Richardson finished third in girls’ 14-15-year-old beginning kata first in girls’ kumite and second in intermediate kumite.
Hallie McDaniel was first in 8-9 kata and kumite.
Jacob McDaniel took first in 14-15 beginners’ kata and beginner’s kumite.
Bradyn Hunt was first among all ages, black belt division kobudo, first in 16-17 kata and third in 16-19 kumite.
Kendall Hackney was third in 14-15 black belt kata and kumite.
Meredith Hackney earned second place 16-17 black belt kata and first place in 15-17 girls’ kumite.
Kata is a discipline using forms. Kumite is sparring, and kobudo is a martial arts routine using weapons.
