BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Nocona’s Meekins nets GW free throw

In a one-point game, the Nocona Lady Indians defeated Iowa Park 63-62 on Tuesday night.
Emma Meekins not only led the offense with 29 points, but sunk the final free throw to win the game. Brooke O’Neal also scored in the double digits with 21 points. Nocona traveled to Vernon Friday.
At Saint Jo
Saint Jo 57, Wichita Christian 33
The Saint Jo High School basketball team defeated Wichita Christian at home by scores of 57-33.
This is the second straight win of the season for the Lady Panthers, with Charity Brawner tallying 28 points. Marysol Avila topped the double digits with 10 points.
BOYS
Prairie Valley 59,
Christ Academy 50
Prairie Valley head coach Zac Tabor picked up his first career win on Tuesday with a 59-50 victory over Christ Academy at home.
Lane Roof was the Bulldogs’ top scorer with 27 points, including two 3-pointers and a helpful 7-of-11 from foul line.
At Stoneburg
Gold-Burg 52,
Bryson 36
Gold-Burg head coach Michael Ball also earned his first career win on Tuesday, with a 16-point triumph over Bryson in Stoneburg.
The Bears pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Cowboys 17-4 for a 23-12 halftime cushion.
Anthony Rios was Gold-Burg’s leading scorer with 24 points, including 5-of-6 from the free-throw line and three treys. See more game reports and complete box scores in the Nov. 19 Bowie News.

The Jim Bowie Days’ Youth rodeo on June 24 were speed events while June 25 had roping events. As of July 2, result have not been posted.

JBD Golf Scramble winners

The Jim Bowie Day’s golf scramble morning flight and overall winners was the team of Parker and Benton Brown on June 21 at Top of Lake of Golf Club.

JBD rodeo brings a lot of fun

The Jim Bowie Days Rodeo celebration culminated with three nights of rodeo action last week.
Produced by TNT Rodeo Company and featuring riders from the United Professional Rodeo Association, it was a great way to end a week full of of activities.
After three nights of competition the top riders were able to leave with the prize money.
In bareback riding, Triston Flinn won the event with a ride scored 57 points.
In barrel racing, Elia Gordillo and Kathy Muehen somehow tied for first place, both racing around the barrels in 17.535 seconds.
In breakaway roping, Corlee Massey got first place with a quick time of 2.410 seconds.
Team roping was won by the pair of Coy Sand and Justin Ochs who caught their calf in 4.6 seconds.
Tie-down roping was won by Kyle Parrish who secured his catch in 9.5 seconds.
The top steer wrestler was Jaylin Minor who got it to the ground in 5.2 seconds.
Ranch bronc riding was won by Jeston Gilliam who scored a ride of 80 while Jace Lane won the saddle bronc riding with a score of 81.5 points.
The last event was bull riding which was won by Noah Lee with a ride that scored 87.5 points.
