Workman’s tough season continues

Brandon Workman’s tough 2014 season continued on Thursday with yet another loss, this time to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Workman, a former Bowie High School standout now pitching for the Boston Red Sox, was tagged with his 10th loss in 14 starts and the Pirates won this interleague game 3-2.
In the game, Workman threw 95 pitches, 61 for strikes. He allowed one home run to Starling Marte in the fifth inning to give the Pirates their third run. It marked the 11th home run Workman has allowed.
In five innings pitched, Workman gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He registered six strikeouts and walked three.
Workman walked in a run during the first inning, and the first three Pirate batters reached base. The Red Sox committed an error, which certainly didn’t help matters. Read more in the weekend edition of The Bowie News.
