CROSS COUNTRY: Nocona girls take third at Holliday

The Nocona High School girls’ cross country team finished third and Bowie was sixth at the Holliday Invitational on Saturday at Kiwanis Park in Wichita Falls.
The girls ran two miles and the boys traversed three.
Miriam Diaz was Nocona’s top runner, racing in with a time of 12:35 for fifth place. Teammate Crystal Duarte took 12th in 13:10.
Yesenia Duarte was the next counted runner for Nocona, 21st (13:46). Victoria Fatheree was 24th overall (13:40) and Flor Gomez 26th (13:59). Daisy Ibarra also ran varsity for the Lady Indians, clocking in at 14:18.
Maylie Short was Bowie’s best runner on this day, grabbing 29th place in 14:22. Lauren Gill crossed the line next in 30th (14:22) and Courtney Brady placed 32nd (14:35).
Valerie Walker was 35th in 14:51 and River Romine 52nd (16:22). Read more results, including team standings in the mid-week Bowie News.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
