U.S. 82 widening still on the state program

Pending state funding, Montague County could see a total of 19 highway projects during budget years 2018 to 2021 including the widening of U.S. 82 west and east of Nocona.
The Texas Department of Transportation presented its Transportation Improvement Program schedule of work during a series of July meetings across the district including one last week in Gainesville on July 12.
TIP is the capital improvement program developed cooperatively by local and state transportation entities.
Within the four-year schedule Montague County’s projects focus primarily on seal coat and bridges, but residents in the northern part of the county will be happy to see upgrades of U.S. 82 and State Highway 59 are included on the TIP list.

The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.
City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
